It’s Saturday morning in San Jose, and over the last month I’ve only been able to sleep in my bed for 4 nights-not consecutively.
Over the last 4 weeks I’ve been traveling the country working with the “best and brightest” of America’s adolescents, and if these kids are any sign of the future of our country, you should be very afraid.
For example, these children have no concept of interpersonal interaction. Social norms no longer exist in our society because we’ve failed to share them with younger generations. Instead, they talk over each other, compete for attention, swear at each other and look forward to the next opportunity to belittle their “buddies”.
When I ask them who their role models are they respond with “Miley Cyrus”, “Kim Kardashian” or “Kanye West”. While I have no qualms with these celebrities and their life choices, I do have a problem with 13-15 year olds aspiring to twerk their way to fame, make a sex tape for attention and letting egos run wild with no reality check.
I think the biggest problem I have with the future generations is their terrible taste in music. Case and point, I was listening to my Bill Withers station on pandora only to have the kids respond with “You have no taste in music.” Bitch, please. One Direction, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and 5 Seconds of Summer do not equate to good music. Bill Withers and Etta James made great music. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones made great music. Chuck Berry, RL Burnside and Robert Johnson made the best music.
Top 40 and “today’s hits” are nothing more than a mass media campaign to commercialize every aspect of your life. Think outside of major labels and participate in activities and music that get you thinking creatively. Don’t fall for the allure of the new whip, the big house, the 100 pairs of sneakers and a slew of inconsistent women/men.
Treat other people with respect and you’ll get the same in return. Don’t be little whiny bitches who want and want, but never do anything to get what you need.
I weep for the future.
This little commercial was originally supposed to be in Can’t Fool the Youth 3 but wasn’t quite ready in time. Regardless was a damn fun day in the bay hanging with some of the dudes. Stoked on the homies for helping out on this!
